Dr. Yih-Kuen Jan is Associate Professor in Kinesiology and Community Health at the University of Illinois College of Applied Health Sciences. He directs the Rehabilitation Engineering Lab in Disability Resources and Educational Services. His research focuses on rehabilitation technologies for preventing secondary conditions in mobility-impaired populations.
Research interests include soft tissue biomechanics, pressure injury mechanisms, and musculoskeletal injury prevention in conditions like spinal cord injury, aging, and diabetes. His work combines hemodynamic assessment with biomechanical approaches to develop clinical interventions.
Awards include the RESNA Distinguished Service Award (2021) and Mary E Switzer Research Fellowship (2006). His research has been supported by NIH, NIDRR, PVA Foundation and Reeve Foundation.
Dr. Jan serves as associate editor for multiple journals including Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation, Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, and PLOS ONE.
