About
Dr. Yi Wang is a tenured Professor of Physics in Radiology and Director of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Research Institute at Weill Cornell Medicine. He holds a joint appointment in Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University. His research focuses on developing data science, machine learning, and physics-based techniques for medical imaging, particularly in quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) and quantitative transport mapping (QTM). These methods are applied to neurodegeneration, inflammation, and precision medicine in conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
Dr. Wang earned his BS in Nuclear Physics from Fudan University (1986) and his PhD in Medical Physics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison (1994). He completed postdoctoral training at the Mayo Clinic (1996). He has received prestigious awards, including Fellowships from AIMBE, ISMRM, and IEEE, and the Distinguished Investigator Award from the Academy of Radiology Research.
His lab’s work spans QSM for tissue magnetism analysis, QTM for perfusion quantification, and automated lesion segmentation. Key collaborations include the development of fluid mechanics-based imaging techniques and deep learning applications in MRI.
