Yi Qiu

Dr. Yi Qiu is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton. His research focuses on biodynamics, vehicle seating dynamics, and ride comfort, with expertise in combined human-seat modeling and vibration transmission analysis. He holds a PhD from the University of Sheffield and has held roles at institutions including Imperial College London, Jaguar Land Rover, and TRW Automotive.

• BSc in Mechanical Engineering (1982), MSc in Vibration Engineering (1985)
• PhD in Nonlinear Material Modelling (University of Sheffield, 1990s)
• Research Fellow at ISVR (2000–2007), with industry experience in automotive and mechanical engineering

Research interests include finite element methods, multi-body dynamics, and mechanical-electrical control systems. He has contributed to projects sponsored by Komatsu, CRRC Qingdao Sifang, and NHK Spring Co. Ltd. Key awards include the Outstanding Young Scientist (1991) and Tianjin Young Scientist Award (1992).

Dr. Qiu teaches ISVR3061 Human Responses to Vibration and FEEG2002 Mechanics, Machines & Vibration. He has advised PhD student Yi Zhuang and holds external roles as a consultant and invited lecturer at institutions like Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
