University of Arkansas FayettevilleAbout
Yi Liang serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at the University of Arkansas College of Engineering, holding dual appointments as Director of the Experiment Station (DREX) and Cooperative Extension Service (CES) specialist. Since joining the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture in 2007, she has developed practical environmental management technologies for poultry producers across industry sectors.
Her educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from China Agricultural University, followed by a PhD from the University of Alberta. She completed postdoctoral research at Iowa State University and served as a USDA/ARS research scientist before joining academia.
Dr. Liang's research centers on sustainable poultry production systems, with emphasis on mitigating aerial emissions from housing facilities, optimizing indoor air quality, and understanding livestock-environment interactions. Her work bridges engineering solutions with animal physiology to address ammonia emissions, heat stress, and energy efficiency challenges in modern poultry operations. Current projects focus on renewable energy integration, precision livestock monitoring, and water conservation technologies.
Analysis of her 15 most recent publications reveals consistent innovation in sustainable poultry farming, particularly in renewable energy applications for broiler houses, advanced cooling systems, and precision emission monitoring. Her work demonstrates strong interdisciplinary collaboration across agricultural engineering, animal science, and environmental disciplines.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- UA College of Engineering Outstanding Service to Students Award (2014, 2016)
- ASABE Blue Ribbon Educational Aids Competition Award (2018)
- ASABE Honorable Mention Paper Award (2009)
As an active extension specialist, Dr. Liang provides technical guidance to poultry producers, integrators, and government agencies while serving on departmental curriculum committees. Her research program integrates field studies with computational modeling to develop economically feasible environmental solutions.
She collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across USDA-ARS, industry partners, and academic institutions through the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, focusing on instrumentation development for real-time environmental monitoring in animal feeding operations.
