Yesenia Rojas-Khalil, M.D., FACS, FASCRS is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She serves in the Division of Surgical Oncology, Section of Colorectal Surgery, and is also the Surgery Clerkship Director for Undergraduate Medical Education.
Dr. Rojas-Khalil is a native Spanish speaker and was born and raised in Texas. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of St. Thomas in Houston and earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Her surgical training included an 8-year General Surgery residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston with a 3-year research fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital focusing on cancer genetics.
Her clinical expertise encompasses robotic and minimally invasive surgery, colon and rectal cancer treatment, inflammatory bowel disease management (including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), and complex re-operative pelvic and abdominal surgery. She has contributed to surgical textbook chapters in Current Surgical Therapy, Scientific American Surgery, and The SCORE Curriculum for resident education.
Dr. Rojas-Khalil is board certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and the American Board of Surgery in general surgery and surgical critical care. She is an active member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and American Society of Colon and Rectum Surgeons (ASCRS), where she holds Fellow status.
She serves as the Spanish Video Commentator and Contributing Abstract Translator for Diseases of the Colon and Rectum (DC&R), the official journal for the American Society of Colon and Rectum Surgeons (ASCRS), making important surgical information accessible to Spanish-speaking medical professionals.
