About
Yassmin Foster-Paul is a Lecturer in Dance (Research) at the School of Arts, Middlesex University. As an early career researcher with a portfolio career in higher education and the arts, she combines creative producing, movement direction, and choreography with scholarly inquiry. A founding member of Legs Eleven Sound System (established in 2011), her work interrogates the social, artistic, and economic dimensions of physical expression.
Research Focus: Her research explores the dance knowledgeability of Lovers Rock music through the embodied practice of "crub" (also called "rub," "rub a dub," or "scrub"), a hyper-sensual, slow, and emotive co-authored couple dance. This practice traces the retention and reimagination of Caribbean dance traditions in Britain, particularly among adolescent black Britons in the 1970s.
Teaching: She supervises

Research Outputs: Her 2023 collaborative work with C. Farmer, Learn the Charleston, has received 76 total views and 9 monthly views at the Royal Air Force Museum London.
