About
Yaroslav Losovyj is a Senior Scientist in the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington and manager of the XPS Laboratory, part of the Nanoscale Characterization Facility (NCF). He joined IU in 2012, bringing expertise in surface science and nanomaterials research.
Education:
- M.S. in Radio-Physics and Electronics (with honors), L'viv State University, Ukraine
- Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics, L'viv State University, Ukraine
His research applies surface science techniques like synchrotron-based angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) to study metal-metal films, metal-semiconductor nanostructures, epitaxial films, and phase transitions in nanomaterials. Current interests include transition metal hydride chemistry, colloidal graphene/graphitic quantum dots, bimetallic nanoparticles, and magnetically recoverable nanocatalysts through collaborations.
Dr. Losovyj previously held roles as a research scientist, senior lecturer, and assistant professor at Technical University of L'viv and National University of L'viv, Ukraine, and served as a staff scientist at Louisiana State University's synchrotron facility from 2001-2012. He maintains an adjunct research professor position at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 2002.
