About
Yann Trolez is an Associate Professor in Chemistry at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Rennes (ENSCR) since 2011. He obtained his PhD from the University of Strasbourg in 2010 under Jean-Paul Collin and Jean-Pierre Sauvage, focusing on multi-rotaxane synthesis, followed by postdoctoral work at ETH Zürich with François Diederich on allenic/acetylenic chemistry. His research spans three major areas:
- Conjugated diynes/triynes: Synthesis and reactivity of cyanopolyynes (H-(C≡C)n-CN) for astrochemical relevance and photophysical studies, including alkyne metathesis for triyne formation.
- 1,1,4,4-Tetracyanobutadienes (TCBDs): Ynamide-tetracyanoethylene reactions for optoelectronic tuning via electron-withdrawing effects and near-IR chromophore development.
- Boron-assemblies: Threading linear molecules through macrocycles using boron, with applications in fluorescent BODIPY systems and rotaxane synthesis.
His group emphasizes synthetic methodology, interdisciplinary applications in photovoltaics, and astrochemical studies. Recent publications highlight catalytic systems for alkyne metathesis, TCBD-based photonic materials, and boron-mediated rotaxane assembly.
