About
Yanjun Li is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at NTNU. He holds expertise in Physical Metallurgy, with a Ph.D. (1997) and extensive industry experience at Hydro Aluminium (2005–2007) and SINTEF M&K (2008–2013). He joined NTNU as a full professor in 2013 and served as a Visiting Professor at MIT’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering in 2019.
His research focuses on solidification, precipitation strengthening, grain boundary engineering, and advanced materials characterization using techniques like APT, SEM, and EBSD. He leads the Norwegian Laboratory of Mineral and Materials Characterization (MiMaC), managing state-of-the-art facilities such as LEAP 5000XS APT and FEG-EPMA.
His academic advising includes current and former PhD students researching topics like microstructure modeling, alloy precipitation, and grain boundary engineering. His work integrates computational simulations with experimental methods to advance materials science.
Administratively, he oversees MiMaC’s infrastructure funded by the Research Council of Norway, fostering national and international collaborations. His research group has produced impactful studies on aluminum alloys, metallic glasses, and SPD-derived ultrafine-grained materials.
