About
Dr. Yang Yu is a Research Fellow in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of St Andrews. His research applies isotope geochemistry to study marine biogeochemical cycles and Earth surface processes.
Research focuses on developing and applying novel isotopic tracers (particularly barium and neodymium isotopes) to understand:
- Ocean circulation patterns
- Marine sediment diagenesis
- Hydrothermal vent contributions
- River-ocean interfaces
- High-latitude ocean dynamics
Publications demonstrate expertise in advanced mass spectrometry techniques and fieldwork across diverse marine environments. Recent work establishes barium isotopes as key tracers for biogeochemical processes in estuaries, deep-sea systems, and river-dominated margins.
