About
Yan Li serves as Associate Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the University of Bergen, leading research in fluid dynamics, coastal/ocean engineering, and offshore renewable energy systems. Her work focuses on multiscale modeling of wave-current-atmosphere interactions with practical applications for renewable energy infrastructure.
Her academic foundation includes a PhD in Fluid Dynamics (specializing in Wave and Current Interaction) from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and an M.Sc. in Ocean Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Research expertise spans Rogue Waves, Wave-Coupled Processes, and Mathematical Modelling of Multiscale Systems, employing advanced hydrodynamic simulations to address challenges in offshore energy conversion and coastal protection. Current projects emphasize two-way coupling mechanisms within environmental fluid systems.
As Principal Investigator, she directs an ERC Starting Grant project (2024-2029) developing novel multiscale approaches for wave-current-atmosphere systems, with additional funding from Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, Research Council of Norway, and UK EPSRC-NERC co-fund. Her portfolio includes over 40 peer-reviewed publications and extensive conference engagement as invited speaker and session chair.
