Professor Yan Jiao is the Head of the School of Chemical Engineering and an Associate Professor in Materials Engineering at the University of Adelaide. Her research focuses on designing electrocatalyst materials for clean energy conversion, combining molecular modeling with interdisciplinary approaches in materials science and nanotechnology. She earned her PhD from the University of Queensland (2012) and joined the University of Adelaide as a Research Fellow, progressing to Senior Lecturer (2019) and Associate Professor (2021).
Her work emphasizes computational electrochemistry and advanced catalyst design, addressing challenges in renewable energy storage and conversion. Key accolades include the 2020 Young Tall Poppy Science Award, 2022 Malcolm McIntosh Prize finalist status, and an ARC Future Fellowship (2020–2023). She has published over 110 papers in top journals like Nature Energy and Journal of the American Chemical Society, with an h-index of 67.
Research interests span CO2-to-fuel electrocatalysts, hydrogen evolution reaction optimization, and electrolyte engineering.
