Dr. Xuechen Zhou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF), a position held since December 2024. Previously, they served as a
- Postdoctoral Researcher in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Penn State (February 2022 – September 2024),
- Graduate Research Assistant in Chemical and Environmental Engineering at Yale University (August 2016 – December 2021), and
- Research Assistant in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Cornell University (May 2016 – July 2016).
Education includes:
- Ph.D., M.S., and M.Phil. in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from Yale University (2022, 2019, 2019 respectively), and
- dual B.Eng. in Environmental Engineering and B.S. in Economics from Tsinghua University (both 2015).
Research interests focus on:
• Selective membrane design and transport mechanisms,
• Resource recovery/extraction technologies,
• Electrolysis for green hydrogen production. These areas aim to advance sustainable engineering solutions through material innovation and energy systems optimization.
Teaching: They currently instruct ECH 323 Transport Phenomena at SUNY ESF.
