Xu Jia

Xu Jia is a Professor in the Department of Finance at the School of Economics and Finance (SEF), Shanghai International Studies University. Previously, he served as an Associate Professor (2016–2018) and Assistant Professor (2010–2016) at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and held academic roles at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, including Lecturer and Teaching Assistant. His expertise centers on International Economics and Open Economy Macroeconomics.

Education: Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2010), M.A. in Economics (2006), and B.A. in Finance from Ningbo University (2005).

Research interests include global economic governance, trade dynamics (J-Curve/S-Curve effects), exchange rate volatility impacts on trade, and policy analysis. His work spans US-Korea, US-Mexico, Japan-China, and US-Hong Kong trade relationships. Over a decade of research has produced 12+ peer-reviewed articles in journals like the New Zealand Economic Papers and Journal of Applied Economics.

Awards include the Chartered Financial Analyst certification (2019–present), Faculty Development Fund (2011–2014), and Chancellor’s Award Scholarship (2006–2007). He serves as a referee for journals such as The Journal of Applied Economics and holds leadership roles in professional organizations like the Association of Wenzhou Ph.Ds in the U.S.A.

Teaching includes courses on International Finance, Econometrics, and Macroeconomics. Professional experience also includes roles in industry (Senior Economist at Shuion Land, 2017–2019) and international collaboration through institutions like the Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce in America.
