Professor · Nanostructured Semiconductor Materials
University of Texas at AustinAbout
Xiuling Li is a Professor and holds the Temple Foundation Endowed Professorship No. 3 in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. She also has an affiliate appointment in Chemistry as the Fellow of the Dow Professorship. Previously, she served as the Donald Biggar Willett Professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), where she was interim director of the Nick Holonyak Jr. Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory. Her research focuses on nanostructured semiconductor materials and devices, with emphasis on innovative epitaxial growth and nanofabrication techniques such as MOCVD, MacEtch, and self-rolled-up membranes (S-RuM).
Dr. Li earned her B.S. from Peking University and Ph.D. from UCLA, followed by postdoctoral work at Caltech and UIUC, and industry experience at II-VI, Inc. She joined UT Austin in 2021. Her work addresses reducing size, weight, power, and cost (SWAP-C) in microelectronics through advanced fabrication methods. Her research has yielded over 160 journal papers, 20+ patents, and prestigious awards including NSF CAREER, DARPA Young Faculty, and ONR Young Investigator Awards.
Her scientific awards include IEEE Fellow, APS Fellow, OSA Fellow, NAI Fellow, and AAAS Fellow. She contributes to professional societies, serving on committees for IEEE Photonics Society and Electron Device Society. Her lab develops cutting-edge technologies like self-rolled-up inductors, optomechanical resonators, and β-Ga2O3-based devices. She explores applications in optoelectronics, quantum systems, and electromagnetics.
