About
Xinwei Yu is a Professor of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Alberta, Canada. He serves as Director of the Applied Mathematics Institute (AMI). His research focuses on Partial Differential Equations, Fluid Mechanics, Signal Processing, and Wireless Communication. He holds a Ph.D. from Caltech (2005) and has held academic positions at UCLA and the University of Alberta since 2005.
Education includes a B.S. and M.S. from Peking University (1993-2000) and a Ph.D. in Applied and Computational Mathematics from Caltech. He has been recognized with awards such as the Richard C. DiPrima Prize (SIAM, 2006) and the W. P. Carey Prize (Caltech, 2005).
Research interests emphasize Navier-Stokes equations, turbulence, and mathematical epidemiology. Recent work includes studies on massive MIMO systems, regularity criteria for PDEs, and reduced-order models for industrial processes. He coordinates the PIMS-AMI seminar series and has mentored numerous graduate students and postdocs.
Publications span over 80 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Nonlinearity, and IEEE Transactions on Communications. Teaching includes courses on PDEs, analysis, and mathematical methods at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
