Xin Liu is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oslo's Department of Teacher Education and School Research (ILS), focusing on the MATHMot Project. Her work explores student learning motivation in mathematics across Europe using quantitative and qualitative methods. Previously, she held a Lecturer position at Daqing Vocational College in China (2011–2017), where she taught, supervised theses, and managed student development programs.
Dr. Liu earned a PhD in Educational Sciences from Ghent University (2022), supported by China Scholarship Council and FWO Belgium. Her research expertise includes educational measurement, large-scale data analysis (e.g., PISA, TALIS), cross-cultural comparative education, and structural equation modeling. She holds a Master’s in Educational Research from the University of Gothenburg (2018) and multiple engineering and psychology degrees from Chinese institutions.
Her research focuses on linking teacher and student characteristics to learning outcomes, with a special interest in educational equity, teacher effectiveness, and instructional quality. Notable contributions include studies on teacher research in underdeveloped regions, cross-country analyses of mathematics achievement, and the Dunning-Kruger effect in educational contexts.
Awarded grants include FWO Belgium’s long-stay abroad grant (2020) and Swedish Institute scholarships (2016). She has received multiple accolades for teaching and leadership, including recognition as an outstanding teacher and leader in China.
