Xianglin Li

Xianglin Li is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science at Washington University in St. Louis's McKelvey School of Engineering. He joined in August 2024 from the University of Kansas, where he also held an associate professorship. Previously, he worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research focuses on energy storage systems, fuel cells, battery thermal management, and environmental assessments of energy technologies.

Research interests include advanced energy storage (lithium-oxygen batteries, fuel cells), multiphase mass/heat transfer in porous media, greenhouse gas emissions analysis, and lifecycle assessments of energy systems. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to U.S. Department of Energy and National Laboratory reports.

• Awards: NSF CAREER Award (2020), multiple University of Kansas scholarly awards.

His work includes a $1.5M ARPA-E-funded project for lithium-air batteries to accelerate vehicle electrification. He leads a lab focused on thermal-fluids in energy and biomedical applications.
