Xiang Ao

Xiang Ao is a Research Assistant and geospatial data scientist at the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science, University of Oxford, contributing to the Mapineq project which investigates drivers of inequalities across spatial scales and time periods. He is also a DPhil student at the School of Geography and the Environment, focusing on inter-city migration patterns in China’s urban system and their implications for industrial development and economic growth.

Education:

• Bachelors and Master’s in Geography, Tongji University
• Current DPhil in Economic Geography and Transport Geography, University of Oxford

Research Interests:

• Migration patterns and urban systems
• Spatial distribution of industries and economic resilience
• Urban climate and geospatial data analytics

Professional Roles:

• Local Chair for City+2025@Oxford, an international conference on urban data analytics
• Contributor to geospatial database development, dashboard programming, and data visualization
