About
Xavier Sala Roman is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), leading the Selective Redox Catalysis (SelOxCat) research group. His work focuses on sustainable energy solutions, including water oxidation, hydrogen evolution, and CO2 reduction. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Girona (2007) and completed postdoctoral research at ICIQ and other institutions.
His research interests include designing advanced catalysts for renewable energy applications, such as photocatalytic systems for oxygen and hydrogen production, and functional nanomaterials for electrochemical energy conversion. He has led multiple projects, including 'SUFACE-FUNCTIONALIZED NANOCATALYSTS' (2024–2028) and 'Adaptative combined production of green hydrogen' (2024–2026), addressing green hydrogen production and CO2 valorization.
With over 100 publications, his work spans materials science and electrochemistry, emphasizing nanoparticle synthesis and catalytic mechanisms. He has contributed to datasets on crystal structures (e.g., CCDC entries) and collaborates internationally on sustainable energy technologies.
