About
Xavier Ribas Salamaña is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Girona (UdG) and leads the Research Group in Bioinspired, Supramolecular and Catalysis Chemistry (QBIS-CAT). He has been affiliated with UdG since completing his PhD in 2001 and returned in 2005 as an independent group leader.
- Education: Chemistry degree at University of Girona (1992-1996), PhD in Chemistry (2001)
His research focuses on organometallic redox chemistry, structural and functional modeling of non-heme metal oxygenases for catalytic applications, and self-assembly of nanocapsules via metal-directed coordination. These projects bridge fundamental mechanistic studies and applied catalysis in transition metal systems.
Ribas Salamaña's work has resulted in 150 peer-reviewed articles (H=54, 8800 citations as of 2024), 9 book chapters, and 5 Spanish patents. He has supervised 20 doctoral theses and currently mentors 7 more.
- Awards: ICREA-Acadèmia Awards (2010, 2015, 2020), ERC Starting Grant (2011), ERC Proof of Concept Grant (2015), RSEQ Research Excellence Award (2018)
