Xavier Cabré is an ICREA Research Professor and Catedrático de Matemática Aplicada at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), based at the School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona (ETSEIB). His primary affiliation includes the Department of Mathematics. Born in Barcelona, he holds a PhD in Mathematics from New York University (1994) under Louis Nirenberg, followed by a Habilitation from Université Pierre et Marie Curie-Paris VI (1998). He has held positions at The University of Texas at Austin, including the Harrington Faculty Fellowship (2001-02) and tenure as Associate Professor (2002-03).
His research focuses on Partial Differential Equations, Nonlinear Analysis, and Calculus of Variations. Recent work includes studies on the regularity of solutions to semilinear elliptic equations and nonlocal minimal graphs. He has been recognized with the Kurt Friedrichs Prize (1995) and became a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society in its inaugural class (2012).
Editorial roles include the Journal of the European Mathematical Society (2014-2017) and Publicacions Matemàtiques. His career includes a fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton, 1994-95) and extensive grant-funded research. He remains active in academic leadership and mentoring through his editorial and teaching activities at UPC.
