Wonseok Yang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sinographic Literatures at Korea University, where he also serves as Head of the Department and Vice Director of the Institute for Sinographic Literatures and Philology. His research examines premodern Korean classical studies, Korean philology, and Sinographic literatures through an East Asian contextual lens.
His scholarly focus explores the evolution of linguistic traditions in historical Korea, particularly analyzing the interplay between Korean and classical Sinographic texts. His 2018 publication investigates Chinese character studies during the Chosŏn period, reflecting his expertise in philological analysis and cultural history.
He leads two major research grants:
- “A Study of Surveying and Analyzing the Research on Korean Studies in English-speaking Academia and Creating a Topographic Map of the Research in the Digital Environment” (2024–2027)
- “Creation of database on civil service examination documents & description of history of rhetoric and logic of examination literature in the Chosŏn period” (2019–2025)
