Winnie Soon is an Associate Professor of Art and Technology at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, where they also serve as Director of the BA Art and Technology program. Additionally, they hold a visiting researcher position at the Centre of the Study of the Networked Image (CSNI), London South Bank University.
Their research and creative practice critically examines the cultural implications of digital infrastructure with particular focus on computational publishing, code and software. Soon engages with themes including Free and Open Source Culture, Coding Otherwise, artistic/technical manuals, digital censorship, and minor technology. They co-initiated the art community Code & Share, which brings together code, diversity, and art, and since 2022 has co-edited the Software Studies Book Series at MIT Press.
Soon has exhibited internationally at prestigious venues including Ars Electronica, FutureEverything, Photographers' Gallery, ACM SIGGRAPH, Harvard Art Museum, transmediale, and Digital Art Zurich Festival. Their creative works encompass software art, installations, performance, books, and workshops that explore the intersections of technology, culture, and society.

Currently supervising two doctoral candidates focused on computer vision security studies and speculative AI, Soon has extensive teaching experience across institutions in Europe and Asia. They have held visiting fellowships at the Center for the Study of the Networked Image, Goldsmiths, University of London, and the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong.
