Wilson Prichard

Wilson Prichard is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy and the Department of Political Science. He also serves as CEO of the International Centre for Tax and Development and the Local Government Revenue Initiative (LoGRI), focusing on property tax reform in low-income countries. His research centers on taxation and development in Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasizing equitable revenue mobilization and state-building.

Education includes a PhD and MPhil from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), UK, and a BA from Harvard University. He has published widely, including Taxing Africa (Zed Books), recognized as a Foreign Affairs Best Book of 2019, and articles in journals like the British Journal of Political Science and World Development.

Research interests span taxation’s role in governance, aid reform, and international tax policies. He collaborates with governments and organizations like the World Bank and the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining. His work often bridges academia and policy, such as leading the World Bank’s Innovations in Tax Compliance program and advising Sierra Leone’s property tax reforms.

Notable awards include the 50th Anniversary Commonwealth Scholarship (2007–2010) and Harvard fellowships. His advisory roles include the BEPS and Mining program for the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals, and Sustainable Development.

Key projects include rebuilding local government finances in post-conflict Sierra Leone, digital ID integration for taxation, and analyzing tax morale and compliance dynamics. His research often highlights practical solutions for equitable tax systems in challenging environments.
