About
William Wright is a Professor of Civil & Geomatics Engineering at California State University, Fresno within the Lyles College of Engineering. He has served on the faculty since 1999, progressing from Lecturer to Associate Professor (2006-2014) and Professor (2015-present), while coordinating the Civil Engineering Graduate Program since 2009.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Davis (2000)
- M.S. in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Davis (1995)
- B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley (1986)
- A.S. in Chemistry from Yuba Community College (1982)
Dr. Wright's research centers on sustainable water and waste management solutions. His primary focus areas include advanced water/wastewater treatment using ion exchange and membrane technologies, conversion of agricultural/food wastes into marketable products (bioplastics, activated carbon, biochar), manure management through anaerobic digestion, salinity control in irrigation systems, and vapor-phase biofiltration for air pollution mitigation. Recent work emphasizes nutrient recovery from agricultural drainage water and desalination of nontraditional water sources.
As Principal Investigator, he has secured over $2 million in research funding from USDA, California Department of Water Resources, and industry partners for projects addressing agricultural water reuse, bioplastic production, and contaminant removal. He actively mentors graduate students through the program he coordinates and has supervised numerous undergraduate research projects.
