William Llope

William Llope is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Wayne State University, part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on experimental studies of relativistic heavy-ion collisions and the development of large-scale detector systems. He holds a B.A. in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Michigan (1986), an M.A. in Physics from SUNY Stony Brook (1988), and a Ph.D. in Physics from SUNY Stony Brook (1992).

Dr. Llope teaches courses such as PHY5200 Classical Mechanics I and PHY6850 Modern Physics Laboratory. His expertise extends to applied physics, including analyzing real-world phenomena like the Belle Isle giant slide's mechanics. He has also consulted on legal cases involving physics principles, such as workplace accidents. His broader research interests include particle physics and the quark-gluon plasma, with fieldwork at particle accelerators in New York.

He is currently refining a physics model of the Belle Isle slide's dynamics, aiming to publish technical findings in a journal. His work blends academic research with public engagement, demonstrating physics principles through accessible projects.
