William Hsiao

William Hsiao is an Associate Professor and MSHRBC Scholar in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. He directs the Public Health Bioinformatics Group, developing computational tools for infectious disease surveillance through a One Health approach.

Research focuses on pathogen genomics, data harmonization standards, and ontology development including Genomic Epidemiology Ontology (GenEpiO) and Food Ontology (FoodOn). Leads the IRIDA Consortium for genomic epidemiology platforms.

Recipient of MSHRBC Scholar award. Recent publications address SARS-CoV-2 data standards, antimicrobial resistance databases, and wastewater surveillance interoperability. Teaches molecular epidemiology and bioinformatics courses.
