William H Ojala

William H. Ojala is Associate Professor of Chemistry at University of St. Thomas's College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on organic solid-state chemistry, utilizing single-crystal X-ray diffraction to analyze molecular packing arrangements and reactivity. Current investigations examine polymorphism, isostructuralism, and solid-state phase transitions in compounds including benzonitrile oxides, monosaccharide derivatives, and benzylideneanilines.

Students in Dr. Ojala's research group participate in crystallographic analysis at the University of Minnesota's X-ray facility, solving and refining crystal structures at St. Thomas. His work advances understanding of intermolecular interactions like hydrogen bonding and halogen bonding that govern material properties and chemical behavior in crystalline systems.
