William C. Miller

William C. Miller, MD, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina’s Gillings School of Global Public Health. He specializes in infectious diseases epidemiology, focusing on HIV, STIs, and substance use. Previously, he served as Chair of the Division of Epidemiology and Senior Associate Dean for Research at Ohio State University’s College of Public Health. Dr. Miller also chairs the Society of Epidemiologic Research (2023-24).

Research Interests: Dr. Miller’s work bridges clinical practice and public health, addressing HIV/STI transmission, healthcare access for marginalized populations, and global health interventions. His research employs spatial epidemiology, network analysis, and community engagement to combat substance use-related health crises.

Service & Grants: Dr. Miller collaborates with the CDC and WHO to improve STI/HIV surveillance and advises on global health policy. His recent work includes opioid crisis interventions in rural Appalachia and HIV care integration in Vietnam.

Labs/Teams: Active in the Gillings School’s Global Health Hub and the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases, leading multidisciplinary teams on infectious disease prevention and healthcare equity.
