About
Dr. William Bryan is an Associate Professor in Physics at Swansea University's School of Biosciences, Geography and Physics. He specializes in ultrafast imaging techniques, particularly femtosecond electron microscopy and the study of nanoscale dynamic processes. His research focuses on the interaction of light with matter, including laser-induced molecular dynamics and the development of high-speed imaging tools.
Education: PhD in Physics from University College London, with foundational studies in Physics at the same institution.
Research Highlights:
- First electron momentum imaging of nanoscale metal spikes (2014)
- First femtosecond electron microscopy demonstration in the UK (2016)
- Novel observation of atomic excitation during ionization (Nature Physics, 2006)
Grants & Projects: Co-lead investigator on the £2M S4 project (Science for Schools) under Trio Sci Cymru (2018–2021). Deputy Director (Creative) of Oriel Science, a public engagement initiative.
Teaching: Leads undergraduate and postgraduate physics laboratory modules including mechanics, advanced lab techniques, and group projects.
