Willi Goetschel is a Professor of Philosophy and Germanic Languages & Literatures at the University of Toronto, affiliated with the Centre for European and Eurasian Studies. His research focuses on Jewish thought, German Enlightenment, critical theory, and social/political theory. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University (1989) and an M.Phil from the University of Zürich (1982).
His work examines thinkers like Spinoza, Mendelssohn, Lessing, and Heine, exploring themes of modernity, alterity, and critical praxis. Notable publications include Heine and Critical Theory (2019) and Spinoza's Modernity (2004).
