Dr. Willem Lesterhuis is an NHMRC EL2 Investigator, Simon Lee Fellow, and Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia. He leads the Sarcoma Translational Research team at the Telethon Kids Institute as Program Head of Cancer Research.
His research integrates tumor immunology, cancer biology, drug discovery, and systems biology with a specialized focus on sarcoma. Current projects investigate local immunotherapeutic approaches for sarcoma treatment, mechanisms of immunotherapy-induced cancer regression, and synergistic combinations of chemotherapy with immunotherapy.
Awards include the 2023 Vice Chancellor's Award for HDR Supervision. Research employs multimodal approaches across molecular biology, preclinical models, and clinical translation.
