Will Porter serves as Assistant Professor of Trombone at Ithaca College's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance since 2022, following teaching positions at Eastern Illinois University and University of Wisconsin institutions. An internationally acclaimed trombonist, he performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and served as Co-Principal Trombone for Chile's Orquesta Filarmónica de Santiago (2009-2014).
His educational journey includes a BMus Hons from University of Leeds, MMus and LRAM from Royal Academy of Music, and DMA from University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a first-generation student and Edwards Trombone Artist, he bridges academic rigor with professional artistry.
Porter's research investigates music education's impact on social development through fieldwork in Mozambique, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. He implements this through community engagement programs, conducting music workshops for court-involved youth in juvenile detention centers and shelters across the United States and Africa.
He directs the Ithaca College Trombone Troupe, which performed at the American Trombone Workshop (2023) and International Trombone Festival (2025), with upcoming appearances at the New York State School Music Association Conference (December 2025).
