Will Glover

Will Glover is a Professor and Chair of the Department of History at the University of Michigan. He holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley (1999). His research focuses on South Asian colonial/post-colonial urban and cultural history, material culture, and urban-rural dynamics. His recent work examines how urban concepts influenced agrarian spaces in colonial north India, as explored in his forthcoming book Reformatting Agrarian Life (Stanford UP, 2025).

He has held leadership roles including Director of the Center for South Asian Studies (2007-09; 2018-19), Associate Director of the International Institute (2009-11), and Director of Graduate Studies (2013-16). Current roles include Department Chair (2024-present).

His research spans urban history, colonial architecture, and the interplay between built environments and socio-economic concepts. Notable works include Making Lahore Modern (2008), which won the American Institute of Pakistan Studies Junior Book Award, and articles on census town dynamics and colonial urban planning.
