Dr. Wilfried Spaar is a Sinologist and Lecturer at Heidelberg University's Sinological Seminar since 1989. His expertise spans Chinese language pedagogy, classical and modern Sinology, and East Asian literary history. He holds a doctorate from Ruhr University Bochum (summa cum laude, 1980) and has held academic positions globally, including at National Taiwan Normal University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
His research focuses on premodern Chinese intellectual history, translation studies, and language-teaching methodologies. Notable works include critical analyses of Li Zhi's philosophy and bibliographies on Tang Dynasty poets.
