Whei-Mei Fan is a Professor in the Department of Toxicology and Cancer Biology at the University of Kentucky. She holds the Edith D. Gardner Chair in Cancer Research and is affiliated with the Markey Cancer Center, UK-CARES, and the Molecular and Cellular Oncology Research Program.
- Research Interests: Systems biochemical approaches (SIRM, META, METPA) for anticancer mechanisms, tumor microenvironment, therapeutic targets, and cancer metabolism.
Recent research focuses on integrating nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS) to study metabolic reprogramming in cancer. Key areas include spatially resolved metabolism, metabolic flexibility in immunotherapy, and patient-derived models.
Grants include projects funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), and Exelixis Inc., targeting triple-negative breast cancer, lung tumorigenesis, and pancreatic adenocarcinoma therapies.
