Wesley Nance is an Instructor of Brass Chamber Music and Trumpet at the Eastman Community Music School (ECMS) under the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music. He serves as Second Trumpet with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), having performed as a soloist with the ensemble. Nance is also an active composer, with his work 'Two Beats!' premiered by the RPO brass section in 2003 and subsequently performed multiple times. His compositions span orchestral and chamber genres, with recent commissions for his trumpet ensemble.
Since 1990, Nance has maintained a renowned trumpet studio at ECMS, training students who have advanced to top conservatories. He directs a trumpet ensemble emphasizing new music, which has commissioned four works in the past three years. His teaching focuses on performance excellence and collaborative artistry.
Beyond music, Nance enjoys tennis, sailing, and film, often shared with his family, including his four children and spouse Shannon Nance, an RPO violinist.
