Dr. Wenye Wang is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University (NC State), affiliated with the College of Engineering. She holds IEEE Fellow status (2017) and received the NSF CAREER Award (2006). Her research focuses on wireless networking, spectrum access, IoT applications, and cybersecurity in critical infrastructure like smart grids and 5G/6G systems. She has led NSF-funded projects exploring mobile clouds and fog computing resilience.
Education: Ph.D. (2002) and M.S. (1999) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
Research interests include: spectrum mobility modeling, cognitive radio networks, edge/fog computing optimization, and security protocols for LTE/5G. Her work bridges theoretical models with practical implementations, addressing challenges like spectrum hole detection, task offloading efficiency, and vulnerability mitigation in critical systems.
Publications (2024) highlight advancements in hybrid acoustic-Wi-Fi gesture recognition, efficient spectrum tenancy prediction (Effi-Ace), and fog computing task governance. Earlier work (2020-2021) tackled LTE spectrum surveillance and cascading failure resilience in smart grids. Her 2015 book explores denial-of-service attacks in wireless systems.
