Wendy Stokes

Wendy Stokes is an Academic Leader specializing in Research and Graduate Studies at the School of Social Sciences and Professions, London Metropolitan University. Her work bridges academic scholarship with practical political engagement, focusing on women's political participation and democratic theory.

Dr. Stokes’ research explores feminist theory, political representation, and citizenship. She has published on women’s roles in UK and global governance, including her 2005 book Women in Contemporary Politics, and is currently developing a new book on citizenship for Polity. Her teaching spans undergraduate courses on Global Citizenship and postgraduate studies in Human Security.

Supervision interests include PhD projects on 20th-century women’s movements, local government, and feminist archives like the Campaign Against Pornography and Charlotte Mary Stott’s papers. She also coordinates research student progression in the Law Governance and International Relations Department.
