Wendy Mackay is a Professor at Université Paris-Saclay and a Research Director at Inria Saclay, leading the Ex-Situ human-machine interaction (HMI) research group in collaboration with the Laboratoire de Recherche en Informatique (LRI - Université Paris-Saclay, CNRS). Internationally renowned in her field, she is a member of the ACM SIGCHI Academy, an ACM Fellow (2020), and recipient of the Suffrage Science Award (2020). Her research focuses on human-machine partnerships, emphasizing user skill development and creativity through interactive technologies.
Her work bridges computer science, psychology, and design, including the instrumental interaction theory developed with her husband, Michel Beaudouin-Lafon. She was awarded an ERC grant in 2013 for projects promoting creativity via digital tools and collaborates with artists to explore innovative HMI applications.
