Dr. Wendy Kaman is an Assistant Professor at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), specializing in Oral Biochemistry within the Department of Oral Biochemistry. Her research focuses on protease biology, periodontitis progression, and diagnostic methodologies involving fluorogenic substrates and proteolytic profiling. She collaborates internationally on biomarker discovery for dental and systemic diseases.
Her recent work explores the role of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-8/9) in periodontitis linked to head and neck cancer radiotherapy, fecal protease-based colorectal neoplasia detection, and pediatric inflammatory bowel disease diagnostics. She also develops salivary diagnostic tools, such as the Kamranmeter for spinnbarkeit measurement, and investigates antimicrobial peptide effects on oral biofilms.
