Wendy Chun

Wendy Chun is a Professor at Simon Fraser University's School of Communication, Director of the Digital Democracies Institute, and holds the Canada 150 Chair. Recognized as a British Academy Fellow in 2024 and a Royal Society of Canada Fellow in 2022, her work bridges engineering and critical theory to examine how media, technology, and culture shape societal and historical frameworks.

• Focuses on algorithmic bias, homophily, and techno-social systems
• Leads the $6M Data Fluencies Project (Mellon Foundation funded)
• Chairs global AI audit standards panel for the Zurich-based International Panel on the Information Environment

Research Trends: Her scholarship interrogates discriminatory algorithms, digital polarization, and the entanglement of technical/social systems, particularly through the lens of her book Discriminating Data and the Data Fluencies Project.
