Wenche Bekken is an Associate Professor at Oslo Metropolitan University's Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Social Work, Child Welfare and Social Policy. She holds an MSc in Social Anthropology and a PhD from the University of Oslo focusing on children's participation in rehabilitation and professional work. Research Focus: Bekken's work centers on three primary areas: 1) Critical analysis of biomedical perspectives and human rights frameworks for youth, 2) Daily challenges faced by young adults with disabilities, and 3) How disability experiences shape legal and social conceptions of citizenship. Additional interests include health inequalities and enhancing social aspects in welfare service interactions.
Teaching & Projects: She teaches courses on diversity theory, social work, philosophy of science, and qualitative methods. She co-led the research project Growing Up and Looking Forward (GULF), examining collaboration models for youth transitioning to adulthood within health/welfare systems.
Research Groups: Active in the Childlife and Everyday Life under Various Conditions research groups, focusing on childhood experiences and life transitions.
