Weiqiu Yu

Weiqiu Yu is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of New Brunswick. He has served as Chair of the Department (2011-2014, 2015-2016) and Acting Dean of Arts (2010-2011). His research focuses on econometrics, health economics, and transition economies, with particular emphasis on the Chinese economy.

Research interests include human capital development, social capital impacts on economic growth, determinants of obesity, and econometric analysis of public policy. Recent work examines regional age structures and entrepreneurship dynamics.

Professor Yu has supervised over 15 graduate students, with thesis topics ranging from healthcare expenditure analysis to regional economic impacts. He has secured research funding from agencies including ACOA, Industry Canada, and CIHR.

Administrative service includes university senate membership, international recruitment initiatives, and development of joint programs with Chinese institutions.
