Dr. Warren E. (Ted) Hewitt is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Western University and currently on leave as President of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). He holds a PhD in Sociology from McMaster University.
His research focuses on Brazil and Latin America, including international cooperation for urban development, social movements, development theory, local government, and quantitative methods. Recent work examines Canada-Brazil relations and Brazil’s innovation systems.
His publications span topics such as student mobility’s impact on national interests, Canada’s evolving diplomatic ties with Brazil, and the role of the CPLP. Earlier work includes urban rail’s effects on housing prices in Ottawa.
Dr. Hewitt has held leadership roles in SSHRC and contributes to debates on post-pandemic normalization, research coordination, and gender equity in academia.
