Ward Strong

Dr. Ward Strong, a PhD and Professional Agrologist (PAg), serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management within the Faculty of Environment at the University of Northern British Columbia. Based at the Kalamalka Forestry Centre (3401 Reservoir Road, Vernon, BC), he operates under the British Columbia Ministry of Forests, bridging academic research with provincial forest management.

His research focuses on the life history, ecology, and management of cone and seed insects, alongside breeding economically important forest tree species for pest resistance. Dr. Strong investigates cost-effective silvicultural strategies to overcome limitations in seed production caused by these insects, emphasizing the development and deployment of genetically-improved trees for reforestation. His work integrates forest genetics, entomology, and sustainable resource management to enhance forest conservation practices.

Dr. Strong's contributions advance practical applications in forest science, addressing critical challenges in ecosystem resilience and timber production through interdisciplinary approaches in pest management and tree breeding.
