Prof. Walter de Wit is a Full Professor of Tax Law at Erasmus School of Law, Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is also a tax lawyer at Ernst & Young Tax Advisors, specializing in indirect taxes and European law. He holds a PhD from the University of Amsterdam (1997), where his research focused on environmental policy implementation via fiscal instruments under EU law. Previously, he served as Advocate General at the Tax Chamber of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands (2004–2007), writing over 100 legal conclusions on customs law, VAT, and EU tax law principles like fiscal discrimination and free movement of goods.
His research and teaching emphasize EU Customs Law, maritime/transport tax law, and compliance. He leads the prestigious Post-Master in EU Customs Law (via Foundation for European Fiscal Studies) and contributes to the 'Customs and Supply Chain Compliance' program with DelftTopTech and TU Eindhoven.
