Walter Ryley

Walter Ryley is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Economics at the Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business, Bowling Green State University (BGSU). He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Wayne State University, along with two M.A. degrees in Economics (one from Wayne State and one from BGSU), and a B.A. in Economics from BGSU.

His research focuses on labor economics and occupational health and safety, particularly in the trucking industry. He investigates how economic factors like compensation influence motor carrier safety performance and driver incentives. Ryley has received notable awards, including the Allstar Instructor Award (2012), Outstanding Adj. Faculty Nominee (2013), and Advisor of the Month (2015).

In advising and professional roles, he has been an Assistant Teaching Professor at BGSU since 2019, a Rumble Fellow at Wayne State University (2018–2019), and a Teaching Assistant during his doctoral studies. His work emphasizes the intersection of labor markets and transportation policy.
