About
Prof. Wagner Hanoch Daniel is a Full Professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. He joined the Department of Materials and Interfaces (formerly Materials Research) in 1986 and holds the permanent Livio Norzi Professorship in Materials Science. His career spans roles at Cornell University, Hebrew University, and guest professorships at institutions like MIT, Harvard, TU Hamburg-Harburg, and Max-Planck Institute.
- Education: License in Physics (Free University of Brussels, 1975), MSc & PhD in Materials Science (Hebrew University, 1977 & 1983).
His research focuses on micromechanics of advanced composites, nanostructured materials (carbon nanotubes, graphene), and bio-inspired mechanical structures. Applications include aerospace, sports equipment, and biomedical materials.
Recent publications highlight work on biological microstructures, scale-dependent mechanical properties, and nanocomposite interphases, aligning with his expertise in hierarchical materials.
- Scientific Awards: Israel Vacuum Society Research Excellence Award (2019), ASC/DEStech Award (2017), Medal of Excellence in Composites (2016), Landau Prize (2014), Plantin Award (2014), Gutwirth Prize (2010), and others.
He has delivered keynote lectures at prestigious institutions, including the Harvard-MIT Nanomaterials Special Lecture (2013), and chaired the Gordon Research Conference on Composites (2000).
